A two night sleepover in cabins
Sign-in Friday evening between 5-7PM, then enjoy a movie and popcorn. No dinner provided, eat before arrival or bring along a packed meal.
Morning and afternoon programs and a fireside pack meeting planned for Saturday. All meals provided on Saturday
Sunday morning clean-up with light breakfast provided. Depart for home before 10AM.
One parent per family must attend
Fee is $30 per person, $75 cap per family

Scouting for Food pickup set for 11.19.11

Scouting for Food 2011 will kick off on Saturday, 11.12.11, with Troop 65 placing Scouting for Food door hangers on doors of local housing developments petitioning them for food for the Derry Township Food Bank. Pack 65 will follow-up with food pickup in each of these neighborhoods on Saturday, 11.19.11 at 9AM and deliver the food to the Derry Township Food Bank. Interested in helping? Popcorn pick-up

Hello to all who sold popcorn. The popcorn can be picked up at the Wildasin household beginning between 4 and 6 PM on Friday the 11th. Additional pick-up times will be made available via website and e-mail announcements.

The address is 308 Candlewyck Lane in Hershey. If you need directions or are unable to pick up your order on that date please let Matt know at mwildasin@cpar.com or 512-6412.

Payment for the popcorn will be due back to Matt Wildasin beginning at the November 18th pack meeting and no later than Wednesday November 30th.
2% of our commission is dependent on timely payment to Council.

Halloween Parade

Come out and join the Pack for the 64th annual Derry Township Halloween Parade. The parade will be held on Tuesday, October 25 and will begin at 7:00PM. We will meet in the staging area, the Hershey Company employee parking lot on Caracas Avenue. Please show up at 5:45PM for Pizza and Hot Chocolate prior to the parade. Hershey Company provides the candy that the scouts will be giving out during our parade. Scouts may wear costumes or scout uniform. Raindate is scheduled for October 26th, if necessary.

Pack 65 Family Bike Ride - Sunday, June 12th @ 2:30pm

Please join us on Sunday, June 12th for a family bike ride. At 2:30pm, Pack 65, friends, and family members will meet at the parking lot in Colebrook (near intersection of 241 and 117) which connects to the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail (most any bike can ride on this trail). We will ride towards Mt Gretna and return back to the Colebrook parking lot (there is an optional right turn at the end of the trail to go to Mt Gretna) Round trip is 4-5 miles but the trail is flat so it will be a leisurely bike ride.

Also, for anyone interested, we will go to the Colebrook Twin Kiss (adjacent to our parking lot) for ice cream (bring a few $$) before heading back to Hershey.

Come out to Shank Park on Sunday May 22nd for our last Pack meeting of the school year. We will be having games and sports from 1:00 to 4. A picnic supper is planned from 4 - 5; followed by a campfire and pack meeting at 5pm. Hamburgers, Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.
Families are asked to bring a side dish according to their particular den.
Webelos: Snack type food (chips, pretzels, etc.)

Area Shelters Community Service Event

This is a another opportunity for our scouts to provide service to our community. Each year Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts join forces to help local shelters. This year our cubs will be responsible for distributing door hangers around the neighborhoods of Southpoint, Southpoint Commons, Southpoint Meadows and Stoney Run. The boy scouts of Troop 65 will be picking up donations (household items, toiletries) on the following weekend.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Stoverdale United Methodist Church, on the corner of Wood and Middletown roads at 9:00AM this coming Saturday the 2nd. The hangers will be distributed and streets assignments will be made at that time. This event should last no more than one hour and give the young men some good early morning exercise.

Wreaths Across America

Thank you for your responses. Enough interest has been shown for Pack 65 to attend the Wreath Placing ceremony at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The service begins at 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 11th. We have been asked to arrive between 11:30 and 11:40.

The scouts will serve as part of the Honor Guard during the service and will then be led to the gravesites where they will be able to place donated wreaths. Full Class A uniforms are required for this event. Depending on the weather, the boys may have to put on several layers beneath their uniform shirts. A request by council has also been made that the boys do not wear sneakers. If the weather turns wet, jackets may be worn over their uniforms.

I am estimating that the ceremony will last approximately one hour. As this is the first year for our Pack to be involved in this ceremony, I am unsure what exactly to expect. However, I feel that our young men will gain a greater appreciation of our Armed Forces and of those who sacrificed for our country. We will meet in the front parking lot of the Hershey Elementary School on the 11th between 10:30 and 10:45. We will then caravan to the Gap as a group. If you have any questions, please contact Neil Biser at 566-4323 or nabiser@comcast.net.

Pack 65 Popcorn Sale Fundraiser

It's time for our annual Pack 65 fundraiser. Order forms have been given to all of the Den leaders and should be distributed at your Den meetings. For the returning scouts, you'll notice that the Council has change popcorn suppliers for this year. If you look at the sales flyer, you'll see that magazine subscriptions have been included to give buyers another option. Please note that the Military donation is still an option on the form. Prize lists have also been out to the den leaders to distribute. The prize list sheets give instructions on how to pick out your prize or prizes depending on the amount you sell.

As in previous years, our Pack will earn 30% of the total sales. This money will be used to fund our future events such as Winter and Family Camps, Blue & Gold Dinner, and supplies (snacks) for hikes, picnics and parades.

Order forms will be due back to Neil or Anna Biser no later than Friday October 22nd, the date of our next Pack Meeting at the Hershey Elementary school.

Popcorn will be distributed on Sunday, November the 14th, from 12:00 noon until 5:00 PM at the Biser Household: 1563 Spring Hill Drive, Hummelstown.

2010 Fossil Hunt at Swatara Creek State Park Sunday September 26, 2010

This activity will help earn the Geologist Belt Loop and Activity Pin but may not satisfy all the requirements.
Due the popularity of this event we need to limit the number of people in the Fossil Pit at any one time to about 100 scouts at each of the two sessions. Packs need to car pool as much as possible. Each Cub must be accompanied by an adult.
No hammers or chisels are allowed due to safety issues. All you really need out there is a flat head screw driver to pry the rocks apart.
Cubs and Parents will be asked to participate in helping clean up the Trash along the Swatara Creek State Park Roads please bring a trash bag with you. Your help in cleaning up the park helps allow us to use the park for this event and keep it free of charge.
CUBS MUST PREREGISTER FOR THE EVENT BY THE SESSION THEY ARE COMING TO. We must limit the number of people at the site.
First Session: 10 am-12pm Clean Up Parking Area for Rail Trail (AS OF TUESDAY, 09.21.10 THIS SESSION IS NOW CLOSED - if you haven't pre-registered they will not allow any more attendees)
Second Session 1:00 pm to 3 pm Clean Up along road and Creek Access Areas (AS OF MONDAY, 09.20.10 THIS SESSION IS NOW CLOSED - if you haven't pre-registered they will not allow any more attendees)
Blue Mountain and Union Canal Packs can preregister at their September Roundtables using the attached form or you need to send the form in as directed below.
Cubs and parents will not be able to attend the event unless they are preregistered due to safety and insurance concerns. Please do not just come out to the event if you have not pre-registered
You will only be contacted if there is a problem with the number of people coming to the session you requested. We will take groups in the order we receive them to fill up the slots available. You must include contact information with your forms.

Memorial Day Parade

A good time was had by all as we watched the Hershey Bears skate to victory. ZooAmerica was present to display several interesting animals and some of us tried our skills at skating on the big ice. The night ended with a midnight movie and a late "lights out" call. Thank you to all that attended for making it a night to remember for the scouts.

As of Tuesday morning, 10.27.09, the Derry Township Halloween Parade is still on! We will contact the Rec Center later today to see get the latest update. As a side note, the Derry Township home page will NOT have status updates on the parade (their site is updated off-property).

So, our plan is to meet at the Hershey Company parking lot at 6:30pm. Judging begins promptly at 6:45PM. Optional: come early at 6:00 for pizza and hot chocolate!! Rain date scheduled for Wednesday October 28th.

Fossil Hunting Field Trip for Scouts - Sunday, September 27, 2009.
Interested Scouts, adults and siblings of any rank/age may attend this trip. Girl Scouts too! Units from any district may attend this field trip. Leaders must make their unit’s own travel arrangements, and file their own Local Tour Permit. No fee is currently expected to be charged for this event. Fossil collecting is encouraged at Swatara State Park. No advance permission is needed.

THERE ARE NO RESTROOMS AT THE SUEDBERG FOSSIL SITE. BE PREPARED.

PLEASE CARPOOL and conserve space at the site as parking is very limited.

Kiss Back Hershey on Saturday, April 18

Kiss Back Hershey is scheduled this year for April 18th from 1-5 pm for clean-up, followed by dinner at the Hershey Med Center tent and a family friendly movie starting at 7:00.

All scouts, parents and leaders should report to the Shank Park pavilion at 1 pm, where we will get our group assignment. Please attend, even if you can only be there for part of the afternoon.

Here are the top safety and preparation tips to remember:

1. Wear light colored, long-sleeved shirts and pants. Do NOT wear clothing that exposes arms and legs or open-toed shoes.
2. Wear good walking shoes or boots, preferably ones that are water resistant. Do NOT wear open-toed shoes. We do have water areas here - so you may get wet.
3. Bring work gloves to protect hands from glass, metal or other sharp objects. If you have these please bring them along, as we have a limited number.
4. Wear or bring sunscreen.
5. Wear or bring bug spray; pests are attracted to many of the items youʼll be picking up
6. Participants under age 18 must have adult supervision.
7. Carry a cell phone for emergencies.
8. Bring water to drink.

Scouting for Food – Saturday, November 8th at 9:00am

Pack 65 will once again be participating in the Keystone Area Council’s Scouting for Food program – our Good Turn to collect canned and packaged foods for our neighbors who are in need. For Pack 65’s part we will be hanging door hangers in the Southpoint and Stoney Run neighborhoods. We will be meeting at 9:00am this Saturday, November 8th at the Larkin’s House (2007 Raleigh Road Hummelstown, PA 17036 – in Southpoint) where we will distribute maps and door hangers and spread out as teams from there. Halloween Parade

Pack 65 will be participating in the Hershey Halloween parade this year which will be held on Tuesday, October 28th. We will meet at 6 pm at the Hershey Company parking lot (it is advised that people park near by and not at the Hershey Company parking lot because of overcrowding). Scouts will wear there class A uniform with a favorite mask or face paint. Judging will begin at 6:15 sharp and we will organize when we arrive at the Hershey Company parking lot. Pack 65 Leaders, Scouts and Families,

Greetings! We hope you have had a great summer – restful, enjoyable and productive. As the summer draws to a close, we have been busy planning for the coming scout year. We have some fun and interesting events planned. A separate schedule of events will be forthcoming when finalized. There is a Pack Leader Meeting on Sunday, August 17 at 7:00 pm in the second floor library of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. All parents are welcome. In addition, we will be having our Pack Ice Cream Social at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, August 27 in the first floor social hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Please plan on attending and invite/bring along anyone interested in finding out more about our Pack.

Our Pack remains strong and vibrant. We currently have a total of 43 cub scouts registered with the Pack - 14 Webelos II, 12 Webelos I, 8 Bears, and 9 Wolves. We are now forming our Tiger den. If you, or other families you know, have a son entering first grade who wants to join Cub Scouts as a Tiger Cub, let us know. In addition, if any parents are interested in assisting the Pack as our Tiger Den Leader or Assistant Leader, please let us know as soon as possible. In years past, we have been fortunate in having Tiger Leaders lined up months in advance. However, this year we are still in need of a Tiger Leader.

As we have done for the past several years, our Pack will be participating in Keystone Area Council’s popcorn sale. Last year, our Pack was one of the top five Packs in popcorn sales in the Council. Our great popcorn sales efforts have enabled the Pack to be adequately funded and to avoid other fund raising activities. Kim Day will be coordinating our efforts. Keep up the great work!

We were fortunate last year to have some great speakers at our Pack Meetings. If you, or someone else you know, would like to show and tell about some hobby, vocation, special interest, or other, please contact us.

If adequate assistance is available, the Pack will coordinate special events through the course of the scout year – Halloween Parade, Pinewood Derby, Winter Camp, Blue & Gold Banquet, Family Camp, and Pack Picnic. These events take a lot of time and work to plan, coordinate and carry out. Anyone interested in helping out with one or more of these events, please let us know so we can add you to the committee list.

Finally, our Pack has been prospered in large part because of our leadership consistency and experience. However, as the Leader’s sons grow and move on to Boy Scouts, our experienced leaders leave us. Next year we will have gaping holes in our leadership. The following leaders will be moving on or intend to play a reduced role:

Pack 65 Annual Family Campout

April 26-27, 2008 at Camp Catherine
• All day camp programs where Scouts can get a head start on next years rank requirements. Program will end with an evening campfire.
• Overnight tent camping for families.
• Sign in is from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008.
• Bring your own lunch on Saturday. Dinner and Sunday’s breakfast is included.
• Cost is $15.00 per scout, $7.00 per adult and $5.00 per sibling. There is a cap of $35.00 for families.
• Registration form with parent/guardian signature and check payable to Pack 65 is due to Betsy Han, 1118 Stoney Run Road, Hummelstown, PA, 17036 by April 19.
• Bring Class A uniform (for inspection). Uniform inspection sheet here.
• Our campfire Saturday night will include a ceremony to properly retire American flags. If your family has a flag you would like to retire, please bring it to include in the ceremony.
o Class 1 health forms need to be on file for siblings and parents who are planning on attending the camp. Class 1 Health form are available here.

New Pack 65 T-Shirts

We are taking orders now for the new Pack 65 t-shirts. These shirts will be our new Class B uniform and all parents are strongly encouraged to purchase one for their scout. We will wear them at group outings such as field trips and summer camp. The shirts are gold in order to make it easier to spot our Pack in a crowd!

We are also offering the option to purchase a long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt and hoodie (hoodie in adult sizes only). Navy sun visors with gold lettering of the logo from the front of the shirt are also available (think summer camp).

The last day to order is at the Pack Meeting on March 14th. Please pay by cash or check payable to Pack 65. We are not purchasing extra shirts so if you want a shirt you must order one!!

Avalanche Xpress 2/9/08

Join Troop 65 on a winter fun day for the whole family. Tubing on several trails for a challenge for the expert or easy trails for small children, with a rope tow take you back up the hill for the next run.

Time and Transportation:
February 9, 2008 11:00 AM till 11:00 PM each family will be responsible to provide their transportation. If you want to go and your family will not be attending call Bob Wiley at 512-2296 and leave a voice mail message. Transportation can be provided with some advanced notice.

Costs:
$22.00 for the lift and spending money for food. Food is available in two ways outdoor snack bar that has hotdogs, pizza, soup, chips and drinks the other an indoor pub with a complete menu

We've reserved the Granada Gym (30 East Granada Avenue, Hershey - click for map) on Friday, January 18 from 6-8pm for our Pack. The cost is $5/family. The Pack will supply pizza and drinks. Dens are asked to provide the following: Tigers - Veggies/Dip; Wolves - Chips/Pretzels; Bears, Webs 1, Webs 2 - Desserts. Payment can be dropped off @ Don Sickler's house, 2328 Raleigh Road, or mailed. Please make checks payable to Pack 65.

Winter Camp is February 1-3, 2008 at Camp Tuckahoe. The response has been fantastic--90 people have registered. If you would like to come but haven't yet registered, please register ASAP, we have just a few more slots. You can download the registration form. Also, if you've registered but haven't yet paid, please send payment ASAP (see the registration form for where to send payment).

Order forms are due 10/26 to Kim Day (566-1932). Popcorn pick up date is 11/11 @ Kim Day's house from 2-4pm. Collect money when you deliver popcorn. All money is due on 11/16.
